Azuka Oforka’s award-winning, acclaimed historical drama returns due to phenomonal demand.
Wales’ colonial past is confronted head-on in Azuka Oforka’s devastating historical drama. Set in 18th century colonial Jamaica, this searing play powerfully explores the experience of women during slavery – those who benefited from it, those who were brutalised by it and those who fought to destroy it. The Women of Llanrumney puts Wales’s role in slavery centre stage; illuminating a hidden chapter of Welsh history.
The story:
Llanrumney plantation. Saint Mary Parish, Jamaica. 1765.
Annie (Suzanne Packer) and Cerys are enslaved by the Morgan family from Wales. Their future hangs in the balance when Elizabeth Morgan is faced with losing her plantation. Fearing what could lie ahead, Annie does everything she can to secure her position in the Great House. But sooner or later, with a storm of rebellion building, Annie will have to face up to the horror and trauma, including her own.
The return of this award-winning, acclaimed, smash – hit is destined to be one of 2025’s hottest tickets.
Presented by Stratford East and Sherman Theatre. Originally produced by Sherman Theatre.
