Chat, company, coffee and theatre! Join us for the next edition of Tales and Tea, our regular morning get-together for older people.
Our Tales and Tea audience will get an exclusive preview of Odyssey ‘84 by Tim Price, in a rehearsed reading ahead of its world premiere performances in October.
We will gather in the Sherman Theatre foyer at 10am before the performance starts and you’re free to sit wherever you like so can be socially distanced if you’d prefer.
Tea and cakes will be served in the foyer afterwards and the Café Bar will be open for those wishing to purchase lunch.
This is an extended edition of Tales & Tea as this will be one of the first occasions that Odyssey ’84 will have been read through in its entirety. At this stage we estimate that it will be about two and a half hours long including an interval. This will then be followed as usual by a Q&A discussion lasting 30 minutes.
BSL interpretation by Tony Evans.
This is a relaxed and dementia friendly performance.
There will be a post-show talk following the performance.
Tickets are just £5. Contact the Box Office on 029 2064 6900, email box.office@shermantheatre.co.uk or click the link above to book tickets.

More information about Odyssey ’84:
The personal and the political collide in Tim Price’s beautiful and heartfelt re-telling of the 1984 Miners’ Strike, inspired by Homer’s Odyssey.
“So. Man of many turns. Tell us your story. From the beginning.”
As the strike begins miner John O’Donnell finds himself thrust into a fight for survival, taking him far from South Wales. Meanwhile, at home, his wife Penny goes on her own epic personal journey whilst striving to support her community. When they are finally reunited, they find that their very different journeys have transformed their lives forever.
Set against the backdrop of one of the most turbulent periods in our recent history, Odyssey ’84 promises a spectacular theatre experience. This major new play tells of the adventures our ideals take us on.
