Important Information

This is a play about the death of a parent and spouse, and contains scenes some audience members might find upsetting. Find out more here. The production includes flashing lights and loud noises including gunshots.

A father. A daughter. A body.

Suspended together in an imagined forest space, Mali and David navigate the impending death of their mother and wife. As tensions rise, chasms form in their already delicate relationship.

Splinter, by Gemma Prangle, unearths the restlessness of grief and how nature manages to hold us in those moments where holding ourselves feels impossible.

The play stars Nia Gandhi (Enola Holmes 2, Casualty, Pijin/Pigeon) and Rhys Parry Jones (House of the Dragon, A Very English Scandal, Eastenders), and is co-directed by Nerida Bradley and Matthew Holmquist. This will be Red Oak Theatre’s first production as a Company In Residence at Sherman Theatre.

“I didn’t set out to write a play about grief,” says Prangle of her beautiful debut play, “but I think sometimes our personal experiences sit so strongly in our bodies that those stories find a way to be told.”
